When wiring a 3-way switch, the first step is to identify the common wire and the two traveler wires. Once these wires have been identified, the common wire should be connected to the "common" screw terminal on the switch. The traveler wires should then be connected to the other two screw terminals on the switch. Wiring a 3-way switch can be tricky, and it is important to ensure that all connections are properly made before turning on the power.
